Rusty, aka Cyber, is a feisty Siamese Snowshoe nearly 4 years old who has been with his foster mom since mid-April. Surrendered in November to the West Branch shelter, he was adopted a few days later and returned after a week. He remained in the shelter until he was adopted at the end of March, but unfortunately his new family was allergic, so he only got to stay two weeks.
Very cautious at first, he now hangs out and wants to be where the action is. He is extremely curious, has bat-like hearing, and will get up from a nap to check out what you are doing so he doesn’t miss out. He runs in front of you and then lays down to show off his belly. He talks faintly - usually for food, much quieter than a typical Siamese, and purrs loudly all the time. He is very picky on wet food, loves Friskies turkey only – no giblets, liver or vegetables, no pate, chicken or fish, and he likes Science Diet dry food.
He spends hours each day watching the birds through the windows. He loves cat treats, and is very aware of where they are kept, hence we had to move all treats to the refrigerator so he would not try to help himself in the middle of the night. He eats treats one at a time out of your hand and wants to help with absolutely everything.
He is extremely smart and always busy. Content for only a few minutes being held or petted; he is not a snuggly cat. We call him Kitty Loaf, and he will sleep on our lap or next to you in bed, with only limited petting, before it is time to play or move on. He opens cupboards, drawers and closet doors, tips over waste baskets and carries toys throughout the house. He pushes stuff out of his way when exploring or finding a cozy place to sleep.
At almost 15 lbs., he frequently knocks things over as he climbs and jumps as he surprisingly does not always fit where he thinks a petite cat should. He was apparently too busy to pay close attention in manners class at his prior home.
He hates to have his nails clipped, thinks it is a game, so he bites. After several different approaches, the vet does it. After some time, he has learned to get along with my daughter’s older Yellow Lab who doesn’t bark, and who also doesn’t mind letting Rusty’s Alpha personality to be the one in charge. Unsure how he may interact with other pets.
He has adjusted well, won our hearts, and we are very sad to see him re-homed. Please consider adopting him only if you can offer him the “purrfect” forever home and will find his cat antics delightful. Probably not the best match for a family with children.
