Marco is a roughly 4 month old seal point Siamese that, up to 2 weeks ago, had been untouched by human hands. When we first got Marco he was feral in the full meaning of the word: hissing, spitting, ears laid back, eyes dialated with some nystagmus, and a threat to any soft tissues (i.e. skin) that came within 3 feet of him.

This cat would have been put down automatically in 100% of any animal control and almost all other rescue agencies for having irreconcilable behavioral problems that make him unadoptable. But since he's a Siamese (and we're a Siamese Rescue), and an incredibly good looking Siamese at that, we're giving him a chance at rehabilitation.

In the first 2 weeks of "therapy" he has gotten over the worst of his fear reaction when a human enters the room and now allows passage to within 5 feet of his furry little body without any overt agressive behavior. Since he has made some progress in that first time period we are transferring him to one of our foster volunteers (on Dec 14th) with extensive experience with feral rehabilitation.

Will Marco make it to "pet grade"? We don't know but we're willing to give him a chance. Would we ever put him down if does not progress? Absolutely not, we only euthanize when life would mean incurable suffering for one of our charges. If it doesn't work out (and we're willing to spend at least 6 months on Marco before having our Board re-evaluate his progress) we will find a feral colony where he can live out his days as the most beautiful cat in the pride.
